Patient Instructions for Accessing Telehealth Sessions
Initial interview appointments, test results, and therapy sessions will be conducted via the Doxy.me platform. An email with a link to the site will be sent to you ahead of your session by the clinician you will be meeting with. There is nothing for you to download. These sessions can be conducted on a computer with a camera and mic or on a smartphone or tablet. Please try to be on time for the session and be in a setting that will decrease the chance of distractions. During initial interviews, if the patient is a child, they will need to be present for the beginning of the session, but not for the entire session. All parties present during the interview, therapy, or test results session should be identified at the beginning of the session.
Your Clinician will establish with you the platform to be used for telecasting – at present we are using both Doxy.me and Microsoft Teams. Each of these platforms has advantages and drawbacks and a decision about what will meet your needs best will be made after the initial consultation. It is very important that testing be conducted on a computer or tablet – smartphones have screens that are generally too small for the purpose of testing.
If testing is conducted using Doxy.me a link to the session will be emailed to you ahead of the session. There is nothing to download. You will need a stable internet connection and a setting where you can have privacy and that will remain reasonably quiet. If available a headset can assist in improving audio quality and minimizing feedback (wired headsets typically work better than Bluetooth).
If Microsoft Teams is to be used, it is very important that you read the following instructions carefully and complete the process PRIOR to your upcoming TeleHealth Testing appointment to ensure a smooth process and optimal use of your appointment time.
Whether you are accessing TeleHealth services from your tablet/PC/Mac device, you will need to download the Microsoft Teams application onto the device you plan to use for the appointment. (Do not use the web app.)
- For the iPad go to the App Store. Search for Microsoft Teams app. Click Download.
- For an android tablet, go to the Google Play Store icon. Search for Microsoft Teams app. Click Install.
- For any computer (PC/MAC), type, click on, or copy & paste this link – https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select your device. (Do not use the web app.)
**You may be asked to sign up for an account if you’re using an Apple product (iPad/MAC). If prompted, allow access to your device’s camera and microphone.
You will receive a Teams Meeting invitation via email that has a link to join the meeting 1-2 days prior to your scheduled TeleHealth appointment. Look for this email and click on the link, “Join Microsoft Teams Meeting” a few minutes before your scheduled appointment. Please note, sometimes this email goes into your junk mail. Again, it is important to do all of this prior to your appointment so you can have a smooth, useful appointment. Your provider will log in as soon as they are able. If they are not immediately available when you arrive, just wait.
Click on the video camera icon and the microphone icon to ensure your video and microphone are turned on. (For Android tablets, make sure you “Turn on Incoming Video”.)
